Round 3

The 3rd day of the FIDE World School Championship started with the Resurrection Liturgy at the seaside church of Panagia Faneromeni right next to the Rodos Palace hotel.

Participants and their parents as well as all the executives of the organization received the Holy Light, wished “Hristos Anesti” and returned to the hotel, where the traditional soup awaited them. Early in the afternoon, the feast began in the hotel garden, accompanied by live Greek music and a traditional Easter table with grilled meat and syrupy sweets.

The games started – according to the schedule and due to the day – at 17.00.

There were no surprises and unexpected results, several draws were made, especially in the first boards of almost every age groups, and surely, one or two more rounds will be needed to distinguish the favorites of each category.

Despite this, there are still players, in almost every category, who maintain absolute winning streaks.

A nice checkmate idea was found by FM Edgar Mamedov against his compatriot from Kazakhstan Islam Aiten in the U13 category. See the game here
while FM Henry Richard Vasquez Vargas of Peru failed to find the winning weight against Turkey’s Yusuf Portakalci and settled for a draw. Watch the game here
